Adding Alternate Servers

From version 8.4.0 you can define additional Door Tablet servers from the Door Tablet Web UI.

The image below shows a typical server architecture.

Follow these steps to create a new server, and ensure the new servers synchronise:

  1. On the existing server, define new servers, as described below
  2. Download and install a new Door Tablet server using a full installer
  3. On an existing server, shut the server down
  4. Copy the following files to the new server in the same location:
    • the files in the "doortablet" folder
    • the names.nsf files from the data folder
    • any branding files you have
  5. Start the new server in the normal way
  6. On the new server, change the server identity to one of those you have created in the first step
You are now ready to test synchronisation between servers. You are also ready to test automatic fail-over from Door Tablet apps. Using alternate servers is described here: Database 'Door Tablet HELP', View 'Help Documents', Document 'Alternate Servers'

Adding Servers
Open the system dashboard then click on "Internal Connections":

The following page will show. You will see your existing server, connections, server switcher and the tests legend.

By clicking on the plus next to "Servers" you can add a server as follows:

Click the plus next to 'Connections':

Once you have saved the new connection you can test connectivity and synchronisation of data:

Once your servers and connection are tested you may also switch the server identity of the target server.

Note: once you have finished the above configuration you should copy the "names.nsf" files from this server to the target server, and switch the identity of the server there.
Note: once multiple servers are installed you may reassign a Door Tablet client to use a new server, remotely.
