Door Tablet V8.2

May 23rd, 2017

Chief topics of our last newsletter, from last December were defined by anticipation: we looked ahead to our attendance at ISE 2017, the world’s biggest trade show for Digital Signage (among other features of the many Integrated Systems that inspired the name of this event); and we forecast big things for motion sensors among the various innovations we have been building into our own Door Tablet product line.

This newsletter follows up on these stories and reviews the application upgrades that will continue to make Door Tablet a market leader in the deployment of enterprise software. In addition, we publish our first case study with a focus on our motion sensors and their potential benefit to the healthcare sector and environments where rooms are not reserved in advance, if ever.

And we conclude with an invitation to all our readers to keep in touch with us regularly by following Door Tablet on Twitter.

Door Tablet V8.2

Listening to our customers is the surest way of keeping up with a rapidly evolving market. Our newest version of Door Tablet – 8.2 is released this week – features a host of enhancements and fixes, many of which have arisen from ideas and suggestions provided by our users from around the world.

Much of the work has gone into providing tools for fast deployment of our hardware and remote administration for enterprises operating on a global basis – see the EZconfig story below.

The Door Tablet team has burned a lot of winter midnight oil in ironing out the software bugs and adding new features.
Highlight of new features and fixes:
  • Floor Plan - this display type had to go through a part rewrite due to a severe memory leak on large networks with many rooms.  It is now stable and very responsive
  • Floor Plan Editor - greatly enhanced to expose unlinked rooms, click here
  • Check In - meetings check-ins was not properly requested for back-to-back meetings
  • Reuse of NO-SHOW meetings - meetings that were not checked in can now be changed and used again - just remember to check-in (System Profile)
  • Ability to hide named meeting owners - useful when you reserve a room using the room identity
  • Web UI enhancements - the web interface look and feel was updated with many new navigational aids added
  • Automatic Failover - added the ability for clients apps to automatically revert to another Door Tablet server in the event the current server has become unavailable, for whatever reason. A particularly useful feature for clients with multiple servers serving many rooms across the globe, or for those with multiple data centers, click here
  • For IBM Domino users - added server ability to switch to alternative Resource Reservation server

EZconfig - new tool for easy hardware configuration

New EZconfig makes Door Tablet AIOs hardware deployment fast and error free.  It’s one thing to install a digital signage network in one building in one location: a few tablets on your meeting rooms, a server no further away than your coffee pot, and away you go. What if you are responsible for large number of displays across a wide number of premises, often thousands of miles apart? And it’s not just about efficient installation: what about downstream reconfiguration of the network to meet evolving operational requirements? And what about upgrades and repairs?

Door Tablet’s newly implemented EZconfig module facilitates many of your configuration requirements. Changes can be effected remotely, instantly and safely, with minimal risk of human errors in the process.  Before you deploy a large number of devices take some time to explore this tool, and of course test your work.

You can use the EZconfig to configure your Door Tablet AIOs in one of three ways:
  • Using a USB stick - the tool will create the files you need and just insert into the device.  No typing of any text required
  • Using a URL directly to EZconfig profiles - this requires some typing but we provide a facility in admin to create really short URLs
  • After devices have already been deployed, push settings to devices using the Web UI

EZconfig means no more tedious typing errors over multiple devices or sites. Processes of installation, upgrade, and repair are virtually plug-and-play, all managed remotely using the easy to use Web UI.

Motion sensors in the field

Our motion sensors inspire healthcare case study
We might have been writing specifically for the healthcare sector in our December newsletter when we said of our innovation of motion sensor technology that it:

“ . . . will particularly benefit client settings where security and privacy are key features in the management of meeting rooms. Embedded motion sensors will detect any movement within a second and so deny access to people seeking entry, indicating that the room is active when there is no means of seeing who is in the room.

In fact, we anticipated the benefit in more generic terms: motion sensors are an invaluable and more precise tool in detecting and measuring meeting room occupancy in any setting.

This being said, our first major client for the sensors turned out to be One Stop Doctors, a primary care and diagnostics center on the outskirts of London.
They have been so pleased with their Door Tablet system that they suggested to us that we collaborate on a case study testimonial to the potential for our product in the health services market. You can read this case study here.

ISE 2017: Profile for Re-sellers

February’s ISE show in Amsterdam was a great success, and a full account of Door Tablet’s involvement is here. We spoke to hundreds of the people who stopped by over the event’s four days.

Possibly the biggest single line of enquiry came from potential Door Tablet resellers, inspired by a product that clearly combines attractiveness with ease of use and of integration with existing meeting booking systems.

Since the show show and the launch of our reseller program we have signed up six companies who are now committed to promote Door Tablet.  It benefits them, us and of course the market.

Are you interested in becoming a Door Tablet reseller in your market or territory? Our primary interest is in getting to know the most effective agents in the global market as quickly as possible, so we are not looking to get bogged down in early discussions on contractual terms. The key is in establishing an early and efficient relationship: that is, let’s make a sale!

To this end, we offer incentives on early conversions, with administration in the early days limited to an acceptance of our newly crafted Reseller Terms & Conditions. Let us know if you are interested in becoming a Reseller and we will make these available to you.

Follow Door Tablet on Twitter

Spurred by our anticipation of ISE2017, we launched our Door Tablet Twitter feed in early January and, in addition to looking ahead to the Amsterdam trade show, used the platform to talk about key features of our software and hardware mix: motion sensors and other privacy features, of course, but also our availability in twelve languages, our adaptability across a wide range of hardware solutions, the branding potential in clever digital signage, Door Tablet’s special online technical support facility, and so on.

What has proved to be additionally interesting is the platform that Twitter provides for the promotion of innovations in the wider world of digital signage, data analytics, smart buildings and the Internet of Things (IoT).  Of course these are subjects of interest for the sort of people who have purchased, or who might purchase a Door Tablet solution to address their meeting room signage requirements.

But the ideas that circulate in this higher world of IoT strategy will also prove essential to the Door Tablet development team in ensuring that our product remains at the forefront of innovation in its own special market.
With its anticipations of upcoming events in the worlds of Digital Signage and the Internet of Things, and of course featuring the most recent developments with Door Tablet itself, our Twitter feed is an essential monitor for anyone fascinated by stories of best practice and promotions of innovation in meeting rooms management.
