What a difference a year makes: looking back and ahead

These last twelve months have seen Door Tablet achieve lift-off. 2017 looks like being bigger and better yet. Newly joined Sales Director Tam McDonald sat down with CTO Avi Tchiprout and reviewed the highlights of 2016, and a few key expectations for the year ahead.

Q: What has surprised you most about the success of Door Tablet over the course of 2016?
A: Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised, as it’s a great product in a growing market and we have all been working hard to make it successful. But I suppose two things in particular have provided surprises of the pleasant sort. First is the global scale of the interest: we get web enquiries from all over the world, and we now have product working in 18 countries.
Q: . . . which I’d imagine has accelerated our development of the software in other languages . . .
A: Very much so. Door Tablet is available now in 12 languages. Of course we always wanted to develop this capability but customer demand has probably got us there more quickly.
Q: Has this same dynamic applied to the technological evolution of the software itself?
A: Absolutely – that’s the second surprise. Not that the market should express its interest in additional software features, but that so many of our clients have been so friendly and helpful in suggesting new ways in which Door Tablet can be more responsive to the market’s evolving needs. It has created a kind of eco-system of collaborative innovation.
Q: Collaborative innovation: nice one. I’ll use that in my sales pitches.
A: You’re welcome!
Q: Would you agree that one area that perhaps hasn't taken off so much is the analysis of user access data? Most prospects and clients have seen this as an important feature in theory, but few are using it yet in practice. Corporate investment in establishing and maintaining meeting room facilities being as expensive as it is, did you think that data analytics might have featured more obviously in client’s thoughts?
A: I think we need to give it time. User analytics is a sleeping giant for many facilities managers, but I am confident its time will come. First priority is that early technologies must be bedded in and then clients will develop a more confident grasp on how to apply it effectively.
Q: So do any specific examples of collaborative innovation stand out?
A: The All In One tablet has boosted our versatility and value. Near Field Communication has enhanced the security of access and use. Floor Plans have evolved naturally from the Wayfinding Solution we developed last year. And now we are working with a couple of partner companies in developing a motion sensor capability that will make rooms management much easier for our clients.
Q: Maybe next year will see this collaborative spirit extend itself into new areas of business, as we reach out in search of reference clients to work with us in the education and health sectors. Partnerships will be our watchword as we build Door Tablet’s presence in markets outside Europe, too. We will be looking for territorial sales agents to help us in extending our global reach.
A: Correct. And this is before we get to the ISE exhibition in February: just imagine the prospects for prospective partnerships there.
Q: Roll on Amsterdam!

Latest Developments - Motion sensors

A distinctive innovation for 2017 will particularly benefit client settings where security and privacy are key features in the management of meeting rooms. Embedded motion sensors will detect any movement within seconds and so deny access to people seeking entry, indicating that the room is active when there is no means of seeing who is in the room. Providing privacy whether or not the room has been booked, the motion sensors will facilitate check-in while providing a corresponding benefit when meetings conclude: an auto-termination feature is activated upon the cessation of motion, with the freeing up of the room being signified across the meeting room network.

Door Tablet is going to ISE 2017

Now in its 14th year, the annual Integrated Systems Europe Exhibition, ISE 2017, is set for another bumper year following the huge success of last year’s event. Amsterdam will again play host, expecting some 65,000 visitors over the four days of the event, 7-10 February, at the RAI Convention Centre – where more than 1,000 exhibitors will again make this THE show at which to touch base with the vibrant and growing AV and digital signage industry.

Door Tablet will be there. Clients and prospects are encouraged to seek us out on the stand of partner associates Qbic Technology – stand 8-H182.
