Using the Door Tablet EPS Controller In this video We will explain the architecture of our ePaper system, focusing on the EPS controller We will show where to view ePaper resources And show how to see what the ePaper displays will look like depending on the status of the workspace In the Door Tablet EPS controller, EPS stands for ePaper system First, a quick reminder about the EPS architecture The Door Tablet ePaper Bluetooth devices, shown here connect to the EPS controller which is run on the Door Tablet ABX2, shown here The controller connects to the Door Tablet Server which can be on prem or on the cloud The EPS controller gets schedules from the server creates content for the bluetooth displays and then sends that content to the devices In this video we are going to focus on what is happening in the Door Tablet EPS Controller When we open the Door Tablet application on the ABX2 it runs our Android application but we can use the controller on the browser for demonstration and testing purposes Let’s open it We connect to a server in the normal way by clicking ‘Add Server Connection’ Then try the connection Save it and log in to it Please note the EPS controller runs as a wayfinding display it is one device that controls many displays So, let's go there The controller opens a neighbourhood that we have created in advance In another video we show how to create neighbourhoods Because we have opened the Barcelona neighbourhood before it prompts us to go straight into it This neighbourhood is a combination of both desks and meeting rooms Lets click to open it We can see 15 resources connected to this neighbourhood And what we see here is an ePaper controller which is enabled For the ePaper controller to be enabled there is some data that needs to be filled in the neighbourhood setting document We can now click to open the ePaper controller We can see it opening up and binding to all the resources that are members of this neighbourhood Only two of these currently have an ePaper device associated with them They are marked in green and shown here We can see the MAC addresses of these devices clearly shown here Since we are running on a browser and in simulation mode we are not actually going to be writing to the display devices But the application works the same way when running on the physical ABX2 One thing we can do here is test what our displays would look like when they are pushed to the Bluetooth ePaper devices What we see here is some content that comes through the templates The Door Tablet EPS program allows you to design your own layout of these displays which you would do from the Door Tablet web UI Of course you can also use the defaults we provide But once we have made a design, we can check it out here and we will now show you how If we want to see what these displays will look like when they are busy we tick here We are taking advantage of the red colour that is supported on these displays As a reminder, the ePaper devices support 3 colours, red, black and white Because of the technology these colours are not pure but to keep things simple we have not manipulated them Now let’s look at what happens if we integrate with the Door Tablet Roamer Application and the system is read/write, not just read only In that case we tick ‘Show QR’ When the QR codes are scanned, actions can be performed on the Roamer mobile app We can decide where the QR codes are positioned but please note that the Door Tablet mark is fixed into this position Finally, in terms of designs, the seven inch device can work in portrait mode not just landscape as shown here Let’s look at some other tests we can perform We can see how the display will look when there is a single booking A desk would look like this and a meeting room would look like this Now let’s see when there is no booking This is what it would show Terms we can see here such as ‘Free Desk’ or ‘Enter’ can be changed to different terminology and the language can also be changed these are standard features of Door Tablet We can see how this would look as a personal display A personal display requires the usage of Door Tablet Booker We can see that no timing is shown but instead the title, name and qualifications This is useful in a range of scenarios where a simple display of personal information is required If we look at the bottom of these devices we see a small green marker This shows the colour that is sent to the small LED on the physical display when the device gets updated If we are updating a device that goes into free mode, it will be green If we are updating a device that goes into busy mode it will be red If we are updating a device that has no reservations for the balance of the day the colour will be blue The light lasts just a few seconds to show how it will look on the device These green boxes have now become red Our simulator checks the status of the devices and in case they lose contact with the controller the Door Tablet system will turn them red and notify the administrator In this case because we are not physically connected to the ePaper devices they have become red We can also find out what our devices will show by simulating the content extract to the devices Let’s use this busy space here and have a look at what it is going to look like We click on the camera image and the content is created We just scroll up and click on this icon and it will show us the content that is being pushed to the ePaper device Once we are happy with the results we can untick ‘Pause Polling’ because this will start reading the schedules and create content as if its broadcasting to the ePaper devices This data is pushed to the ePaper devices only when we run the ePaper controller on the ABX2, not the browser, but this just shows the whole process At all times we can see here what the system is doing We also maintain logs on the server and if there are any issues we deal with that there too Thank you for watching
