Door Tablet V7.4.5

March 4, 2016

We are pleased to announce the release of Door Tablet 7.4.5.  We also wanted to let you know how the new hardware is shaping up and for those that have already seen it we welcome your feedback.

Hardware

Last month we announce the release of new enclosures and delivery of SSSP.  So far the enclosure for Samsung Galaxy Tab E proves the most popular, due to its very low profile and affordability.  This is followed by SSSP due to the fact that the solution is fully integrated without the need for enclosures.  The down side of course is that the current model does not have PoE, but this will change this year, as demonstrated in ISE 2016.

For Galaxy Tab users who wish to use it with PoE its been reported that some older devices did not have the Ethernet option - but this has not been the case in the USA.

We believe that the new range of Android tablets, with Android 5.1, should have that option.  If you just use a passive splitter or local power this will not be an issue for you.

The hardware range is showing here.

New Tracking and Remote Restart

Few months ago we introduced device monitoring that virtually eliminate the need to use MDM (Mobile Device Management).  We have now added a new level of control allowing unprecedented power in the hands of system administrators.  Device Tracking allows you to see, at a glance, which Door Tablet clients are running (connected and updating schedules), what type of devices these are and the IP address.  This view also allows you to restart a whole group of devices from the comfort of your seat.  You may want to restart a connected device when you made many changes to:
  1. Translation Strings
  2. Slide Shows
  3. Branding
  4. Processing Rules
  5. Neighborhood Membership
Restarting a client is not intrusive and a user accessing a tablet will not be interrupted.

New Event Image

You may now add an image to a calendar appointment which will overlay the entire display when the event is occurring.  This is particularly useful when an organization, say a hotel, hires room for functions such a corporate meetings, weddings, conventions and so on.  When an image is displayed, touching the display dismisses the image and the user is able to access all functions such as requesting assistance, checking other rooms and so on.  A short while later the image will display again until the end of the meeting.  To learn more about adding an image to your event see here.

Meeting Soon - a new Status

We have added another status to a single room display that shows 10 minutes before a meeting begins.  The Metallic theme shows this new status, out-of-the-box, and you may affect your branded display to take advantage of the new status, too.  Read more about room statuses here.

Fixes

We fixed a few faults in this release.  On the client side mainly:
  1. Eliminated styling caching - any change you make will appear right away
  2. Selecting wayfinding displays stopped scrolling in certain conditions
  3. Airport display showed dummy reservations when they should have not
  4. Neighborhood switching will mess the display of "other" rooms if there were too many neighborhoods to display.  The Door Tablet client will now truncate the list automatically and according to the height of your display.  Ensure you are selective when deciding which additional neighborhood should show.
  5. We dramatically reduced the size of data versions.  To enable this change please save the main system profile or any room, at least once.
Windows Store App
We found a major fault in the app where only one Theme was loading.  Also, and CSS changes you made as part of branding will suffer from extensive caching - so we fixed that too.
