Importing users In this video We will show how to import user information into Door Tablet We will go through the simple steps of how to get the information from a CSV file into the database Finally, we will show how to check the import has been successful There are multiple ways to create user records in Door Tablet We will briefly describe these options before showing how to import users Log-in to the Door Tablet web UI Users are held here – but their source could be from multiple places If we look at ‘Integration’ we can see that depending on the technologies we use we can use ID sources in several ways Users can come from the built-in database, from access control and from DTSI, the Door Tablet Standard Interface In this video we will be looking at how to import built-in users Click on ‘Advanced’ and navigate to ‘Users’ Click on ‘Import CSV’ This is a very simple way of importing users into Door Tablet It is also a secure way of doing so without any potential problems with data that we do not want in the database like having duplicate users This screen shows us the format of the CSV file Only one field is required which is the email, all other fields are optional When we create a CSV file we will need a header this header will include the names of the fields we wish to process In this case, those fields will be exactly as named here in the first column Let’s go through these steps here For Step 1 we need to upload the CSV file by clicking on ‘Browse’ Step 2 we will ask the system to process the CSV file Step 3 we will see if there are any issues in the process we do this by clicking on ‘Log Events’ Step 4, we examine each entry as to what Door Tablet intends to do with it should it proceed with the import This is done by viewing the JSON file we are presented with on a JSON viewer For Step 5 if we are happy with the entries we can click on 'Process JSON to DB' On the final step we will look at the results we can look by name or categorised Let’s have a look at one of the sample files we have created to import into the database We have created this using Excel and the data we have imported from another source The header row contains the name of the fields we are going to be using in the same order that they appear in the actual data There are six users here some of these are already on the database and some are not Now we will close this file and go through the steps to import We click on ‘Browse’ and now we submit it When submitted we can examine the log file in case there were any issues It tells us that it found the file It processed the file and encountered no errors so we can proceed Then we will examine it In this case it asks us to save it Now we can open this file and view it using our favourite JSON viewer In our case we ask the system to open JSON files in a browser as we have installed a JSON viewer in Firefox For each of the entries the JSON file shows exactly what is going to happen For example, ‘Paul Smith’ will just be updated This could either be because one of the fields has changed or maybe it has a new category If we scroll down to ‘Steve Rogers’, we can see this is a new user that will be inserted Now back to the database we are ready to import so we click here Finally, we can examine the users and check the new users are here We can search for them alphabetically or we can look at a category We set up a category called ‘Import test' so we can see all the six users and know that the import was successful Thank you for watching
